About Me

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was raised in southeast Michigan.  My parents were from Pennsylvania and came to Michigan looking for work opportunities in the automotive field.  It was a goal of my parents for their children to go to college if that was our chosen path. Therefore, in high school, I took the required college preparatory courses as opposed to art classes which I truly enjoyed.

My art teacher would say “you should be taking more art”.

In college, I did major in a creative field, Clothing Design & Merchandising, but ended up going back to school for an MBA and now do project management work.

After college, I decided to take an oil painting class through adult/community education.  Through this experience, I developed my talent and passion.  I learned techniques and color theories from two very talented yet stylistically diverse instructors.  I continue to take this class as it has evolved into more of an art club.  I have been painting with these artists for years and it provides a source of inspiration and continued learning.

Over the years, I have received many compliments about my paintings.  I am very honored and humbled by these sentiments.  I started Lisa’s Oils due to the encouragement and motivation of one very special person, to whom I will be forever grateful.  I am excited to see this adventure grow!

About my Work

I have read several artist statements about their styles which seem to be very philosophical….. how they use the application of light theory, exaggerated forms,  capturing the spirit of emotion, etc.

I feel that my approach is more instinctive.  I am fascinated by the beauty in nature and all the textures and colors that we are surrounded by, even with man-made structures. Through painting, I can capture this splendor while providing a means of relaxation and meditation.    I also have a simplistic view, by marveling at a site and thinking how it would make a great painting.  This emotion then gets transferred to the canvas through elements of my personality.

My medium of choice is oil paints.  Oils allow for more time to blend colors and apply even glazes over underpaintings, with more intense pigments. I feel I can create bolder paintings with more depth.
